Initially, his Korean independence activism started in Jilin, China in 1912 to assassinate a Japanese official. He came to America in 1917 and joined Korean National Association in Dinuba, Akron and San Francisco by supporting financially to the sum of $330.50 from 1917 through 1945. In 2011, the South Korean government posthumously recognized him with the Order of Merit of National Foundation / Patriotism Award for his contribution toward the Korean independence movement.
