Choi, Doo-wook: He contributed independence funds by participating in the United Korean Committee in America.
He was actively involved in the United Korean Committee in America which was established in April of 1941 in Hawaii and the Korean National Association for the Korean independence movement. He was also involved with the Korean Independence Party in Hawaii and he was elected as vice president of the Korean National Association in 1945. He was hugely active in collecting independence funds and he was sent to Korea in 1946 as a representative from America. He passed away in 1956. His son is Herbert Choi, a U.S. District Court Judge in Hawaii. In 1998, the South Korean government posthumously recognized him with the Order of Merit of National Foundation / Patriotic People Award for his contribution to the Korean independence movement.
