Chang, Keum-whan: He donated an unbroken financial help to Korean independence from Korean National Assistance in Hawaii.
In 1999, the South Korean government posthumously recognized him with the Order of Merit of National Foundation / Patriotic People Award for his financial assistance towards Korean independence movement through Korean National Association in Hawaii from 1904 through Korean liberation in 1945. He was fiercely active in preparing and assisting legal fees for the defense of Chang, In- whan and Jeon, Myeo- ng-woon for their patriotic killing of Stevens. In 1940, in his editorial, he strongly underscored the primary mission was the struggle against Japan to attain Korean independence imbuing Korean national awareness and active financial assistance to the Provisional Government in Shanghai in 1944.
